Time to redecorate? Isn’t it always. You switch out the wall art, move the furniture, and deep clean every inch of the room. But something is missing… a new rug! Rugs can change the style, look, and feel of a room. But be careful, placing a rug the wrong way can throw off the balance of a room. Don’t worry if you aren’t an interior design expert. We will show you all the ropes… and rugs.
Bedroom Rug Sizing
Rug size and placement depend on the size of the bed. Twin beds pair best with 5x8, 6x9, and 8x10 rugs. Queens and fulls pair best with 5x8, 6x9, and 8x10 rugs. Kings pair best with 6x9, 8x10, and 9x12. See our infographic below to learn more about sizing and placement.
Living Room Rug Sizing
Typical sizes are 8x10, 10x12, 10x14. All the front legs of couches, loveseats, and recliners need to be on the rug. Your rug should extend at least 6” on the long sides. See our infographic below to learn more about sizing and placement.
Dining Room Rug Sizing Guide
Make sure all your chairs fit comfortably on the rug and have at least 1 ft. of space between the back of the chair and the edge of the rug. Typical sizes are 5x8, 8x10, and 9x12. A good rule of thumb is to buy a rug that is 2-3 times bigger than your table. See our infographic below to learn more about sizing and placement.
Runners
Runners can be used in any long stretch of floor, such as bathrooms, hallways, and in front of fireplaces or bookshelves. If you use a runner in your hallway, ensure that there is at least 2” between the edges of the rug and the walls.
